Big Blue Sky Sunset Captured on Canvas
I was driving around the back roads of Mississippi, when I came across an opening at about 7:30pm in the evening. I knew right away that this spot was special given the blue sky sunset. I had no choice but to pull over and capture the moment in a quick sketch. This painting was done from that same sketching that was done after pulling over to the side of the road.
It’s a combination of heavenly blues up in the sky and warm fire tones towards the horizon. In fact, it was a blue sky sunset that you read about. This was a low horizon piece, typical of many of the sunset paintings that I do. Once in a while you come across a scene, that is a little too large to capture the feeling on the small canvas. So, I did exactly what I needed to do. I brought it back to my studio, and this is the piece I painted in a large format!
