Happy Tuesday everyone! I do one thing every single day and most likely don’t think they have the time to do so or they just choose not to.

I’ll get to that soon, but first, I’ve gotta tell you how excited I am that spring is officially here!

I’m itching to start painting on location again.

I’ve got a couple of things to share with you today.

First things first, I’m a huge fan of Claude Monet and the work that he’s done.

So much that I wanted to recognize him and share some information about the artist and his work. Check out the blog post below which shares some information on his work.

Next up, I just launched this new piece which is part of the Miami Series. It’s an 11×14 watercolor on paper.

I have to get my hands dirty and dive into some corporate commissioned projects this week, so these types of quick release sketches are going to have to take a back seat for the rest of the week.

Now, wanna hear something that I do everyday? I spend time connecting with nature, every single day.

I wish you a great day and I encourage you to spend some time to connect with nature if you can today. Even if it’s just listening to the birds for 5 minutes while sipping your coffee. It’s a game changer if you’re not appreciating it, trust me.

Life is too fast, and taking the time to smell the flowers, hear the birds chirp, or just admire the foliage can be life-changing when appreciated consistently.

When you can’t admire all that during the cold winter months, you can always admire a landscape painting in the comfort of your home.

TGIF! Are you as happy as I am that it’s Friday?

Another successful week of painting and building wonderful relationships with collectors.

Those that I spoke with via email, I want to thank you for the kind words and for being collectors.

Honestly, it means a lot to me, so thank you very much.

Now, since it’s Friday I want to end the week with a couple of releases.

I recently added two new female figure pieces that are available for purchase. Back in the day I would create lots of these types of pieces. I’m starting to get back into creating them again. As for the new video, I just published this video on a large abstract that’s framed and hanging in the gallery/studio.

The piece is available and I’m explained the meaning behind creating this piece in the video.

Another piece that I want to introduce to you features the girl with the golden earring.

I don’t do many portrait style pieces these days but I when I do, I enjoy creating them.

This is a 12″ x 16″ oil on panel. I tried to capture and put a strong emphasis on her perfect skin complexion and the shiny gold earrings. Check it out below. It’s dry and ready to ship to the collector looking to add it to their collection. Click the image to see the details.

So, this hurricane set me back quite a bit in terms of technology. Not personally, but someone who handles a lot of my technology was out for a couple weeks.

I can’t begin to imagine what that must feel like for him. Taking technology away from someone that makes a living managing these types of things would be like restricting me from creating artwork for two weeks.

I can’t imagine what that must be like. Even worse, there are people on these islands out of power for likely a long, long, time. 

On a more positive note, he’s back in action and able to work on things like he never skipped a beat. All while keeping me informed of what’s going on and why.

This is one of the many reasons why I like to work closely with a small number of reliable people. I prefer to keep a “tight working” network versus a larger less reliable team. Whatever works, right?

Let me get to the art…

A lot has happened since I last emailed subscribers. In a nutshell I…

• Did some charity work
• Recorded about two dozen more videos
• Played around with the creation of a fun commercial video
• Started a very large piece (set to take thousands of hours estimated price between $30k and $50K depending on the exact time)
• Created a few smaller commissioned pieces

That’s the scoop there!

Now, you’re probably wondering what I’ve recently released to the gallery.

Instead of showcasing a piece that I’ve personally created, I’ve instead decided to release a piece by Valery Kosorukov.

This is a 9” x 12” oil on masonite, signed by Valery Kosorukov. He’s considered one of the top Russian artists with pieces auctioning for thousands. Do a little bit of Internet research and you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Good morning, I spent this past weekend getting up early and working. Sure, like a typical weekend, I did throw on some tunes and do a little bit of painting, but most of the work was business related versus creating new artwork.

After taking time to further analyze things, communicate with collectors and brainstorm, I came to realize something…

As a full-time professional artist, my job isn’t just to create art that collectors want. It’s also to present fine art in a way that allows you to connect more intimately with the pieces. Many local collectors have the ability to physically visit the Cartmell Studio.

However, given that some collectors live more than 2,000 miles away and that most purchase art via the online gallery, I know how difficult it can be for them to “stop by” the studio. That’s exactly why I wanted to find a better way for collectors to connect even more with the artwork.

I want collectors to feel the piece. I want them to develop a relationship with each piece…physically, emotionally, and in many other ways.

In order to do this, I’ve decided to add videos to the online gallery. You’ll soon notice that online gallery listings have videos associated with them.

Each of these videos will give you a better idea of the size, quality, depth, and the thought process behind the original artwork.

As for a new piece, I want to share the “Bearded Man” with you. Recently released to the online store, this piece is an 8” x 10” oil on canvas that comes framed and ready to hang.

Well, time for me to grab another cup of coffee and attack the day.

Paintings sold for hundreds of dollars can appreciate and be worth thousands and those purchased for thousands can eventually be worth much more. That said, the price of a piece isn’t what’s important but the connection you have with it.

That’s part of the reason why I sell some pieces for hundreds and others for thousands. Of course, time spent on a project somewhat dictates the price but I feel that everyone should have their fair shot at building their own fine art collection.

Speaking of fine art, I’ve got a new piece that I’ve just released. It’s the first piece on this page. This is a 20 x 24 oil on rolled canvas. It was a study done in the life class in the very free loose style.

Also, I came across something this morning I heard on the news and it got me thinking…

Some people take very good care of their artwork. Others, well, not so much. In fact, many may not even know how valuable some pieces may be.

Take for example the owner of this potentially $10M to $15M painting.

A gentleman who was set to move into an assisted living facility called up an appraisal company because he had a signed Kobe Bryant poster in his garage.

The appraisal company stumbled upon something worth much more than that poster. They found a Jackson Pollock painting worth millions. The owner had no idea that it was even valuable.

I guess the moral of the story is no matter how much you pay for artwork, there’s a chance that it’s worth far more than you realize.
